1. How did your journey start?
Uvanes Vary Raja Gopall:
“My journey is quite simple. I finish my degree and straight away started business, so I never worked in corporate. So all the way past 25 years, I’m doing business.“
Sangeetha Radhakrishnan:
“What got me into this business was I think I just wanted more time for myself and also for my family. And I just thought only by doing business, you actually get to do that.“
Shee Chee Cheng:
“A very sudden idea. One day I was thinking we ourselves are from the designing field, then why not we push our limits to create our own design.“
Sofea Hashim:
“I am a person who likes to frequently change my outfit, so whichever I am not using I will sell it off and from there I started to open up my own business, a small own business and yeah, I started to sell all my used outfits.“
Tresa Munisamy:
“After I give birth, I decided to do business, my own business in, I prefer social media which is easy to take care of the kids. So, I was started from dropship and come up with own product and doing my own business which is what I like in the divine products.“
2. Tell us a moment from your business journey
Uvanes Vary Raja Gopall:
“I think it’s the fact that wherever I go, my customers will come to me and they say “Eh, you’re Yuva, I’m your customer, I wear your clothes”. So I think that’s kind of motivating and inspiring.“
Sangeetha Radhakrishnan:
“I think when you know that people recognize your brand, when you go places, they recognize the brand, the compliments and all those, also when people tell that how I probably like inspire some people to get into business and some of them say that they follow my footsteps. I think that’s very encouraging.”
Shee Chee Cheng:
“When we first launched our Mid-Autumn Festival gift box, in the short span of three weeks, we sold off more than 5000 boxes. That is considered our biggest motivation. So it keeps me going in this field.“
Sofea Hashim:
“I think a moment that had a big impact in my life as well as my business, where people start to purchase from me and I did not expect it to happen but people keep buying from me and I think it’s a very big impact because it shows that people trust my business.”
Tresa Munisamy:
“I’m staying in apartment. So, you know, the apartment have a three room, right? Most of the rooms are with the clothes, with the things and we are staying in one room only, and then slowly, we decide to grow. And then after growing, we are now started with a new store.“
3. What were the challenges you faced when you first started?
Uvanes Vary Raja Gopall:
“Maybe it’s me who started very early. Without any exposure, any experience, any mentorship. So, I had to find the answer myself.“
Sangeetha Radhakrishnan:
“People are not so used to online business, especially the industry that I am in where they sell Indian ethnic wear, people are always used to going to the store, touch, feel and see. So it did take them some time to get used to buying something online by just looking at pictures.“
Shee Chee Cheng:
“How do we stand out among the rest of the competitors is to have a good and unique design. Not only that, designing also requires a good background story in order to attract our customers.“
4. What piece of advice can you share?
Uvanes Vary Raja Gopall:
“Being an entrepreneur, it’s actually a journey. It’s not a destination, you never find a destination. So, just enjoy the journey.“
Sangeetha Radhakrishnan:
“When it comes to business, it’s very very important to recognize what is your passion for, you can’t simply start a business because others doing it. And what you choose to sell, you must have passion for it. So I think that’s very important.”
Shee Chee Cheng:
“In my opinion, do not worry too much on certain thing, once you think of something that is right, just do it. Then, do it whole heartedly.“
Tresa Munisamy:
“Don’t scared of anything. Just move forward.”
