Best International Shipment Method: Delivered Duty Unpaid vs Delivered Duty Paid!

Best International Shipment Method: Delivered Duty Unpaid vs Delivered Duty Paid!

🌍Expanding your business globally is now easier than ever with EasyParcel’s international shipment services!👏 You can book international shipment easily within 2 minutes from the comfort of your home, and our courier partners will come to pick up your parcels from your doorstep for FREE!

🤔However, when shipping internationally, there might be import duties and taxes imposed on the goods. You might also come across the terms Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) and Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) when booking a shipment. Here at EasyParcel, we provide the DDP feature to give you more options to ship easily.✈️

But, what is the difference between the two and which option is the best for your needs?

DDU vs DDP?💡

Here’s an overview of both shipping methods.

What is Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU)?🤔

Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) method means goods that are shipped internationally without prior payment of import duties and tax. This usually means Postpaid by Receiver once goods arrive in destination customs.

How It Works?

Receiver will be informed by courier/customs to pay for the import taxes and duties when the shipment arrives at the destination customs. Additional charges such as storage charges, handling charges, etc. may be imposed by customs as well. After the payment is made, the shipment will only be released by customs and delivered to the receiver.

What is Delivered Duty Paid (DDP)?🧐

In contrast to DDU, Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) is Prepaid by Sender when shipping international goods. Sender is to take care of all the responsibilities of import clearance, import duties and tax payments of the goods until it arrives at the parcel destination.

How It Works?

Sender is to prepare for shipping cost by reliable couriers, documentation, pays for origin customs clearance fees, import cost, destination customs clearance fees, taxes on the goods (Value-Added Tax -VAT) and others that may include. Sender is also advisable to check the destination country for its de minimis value to prepare for tax purposes.

So now that you’ve got all of the information, which option is the best for you?🙌

In our opinion, DDP is a more advantageous method as it speeds and smooths out the shipment process✅ than the DDU method. This will give a good impact on your receiver’s experience as they will receive the shipments earlier and without a hitch.

Whereas, the DDU method will cause late receival and could impact the whole good experience for the receivers.🙅‍♀️ As receivers are expected to make a payment just to retrieve their parcels, especially if they’re not being informed early on.

Avoid losing the trust of your customers and make a hassle-free international shipment with DDP via EasyParcel. Simply turn on the DDP feature and estimated duties and tax amount will be added to your total. See how👇

Frequently Asked Question

Here at EasyParcel, we make international shipment a hassle-free experience for our users. To include DDP in shipping internationally, you only need to turn on the feature while booking and an estimated amount of import duties and tax will be added to your cart.

In our humble experience, whether via DDP or DDU method, transparency is the most rewarding thing for a business as it shows your honesty in doing business. Be transparent with your receivers of all the possible additional payments other than the goods themselves to increase loyalty among your customer base.

You may include the fees:

  • on your product page
  • FAQ sections
  • Terms Policy
  • at the checkout page
  • a note on the receipt.

Your selected courier will contact the receiver directly to collect any applicable duties and taxes. These amounts need to be paid upon delivery, before delivery or even after delivery.

– The amount will be deducted from the sender’s EasyParcel account / registered credit card and proceed with delivery
– Return with charges (sender still need to pay for the duties and taxes)
– Disposal with charges (subject to the destination country and duties and taxes remain unchanged)

Not paying taxes is tax evasion, which we don’t encourage. It’s not worth risking your business getting fined. It’s best to know any import tax and custom duty amount that is applicable to your shipment and being upfront with customers on pricing.

No. Shipments are cleared through customs based on where they’re coming from, the item category, and value – not its purpose.

Customs officers can easily check your business website and other sources to verify if the value listed matches the actual value of the item. Listing a lower value in order to avoid taxes is tax evasion and against the law.

The relevant customs have the right to return/dispose/confiscate/seize a shipment they deem as a prohibited/dangerous item or a threat to public safety. In such an event, all shipping fees and customs duty or tax levied will be charged back to the sender’s account.

Compensation is based on the value of the shipment declared during booking, the value stated on the purchase invoice or the maximum coverage offered by our courier partners, whichever is lower. However, EasyParcel is not liable to refund any of the shipping fees and DDP or DDU charges for lost or damaged shipments after the shipment has been collected by our courier partners.
